Four Facts About Incontinence In Men

Some more information dealing with Incontinence in Men

Though they are less likely than women to suffer from urinary incontinence, about five million American men have bladder problems. What’s more, they are often uninformed about the issues that face people with incontinence. With that in mind, here are four facts men should know about bladder problems.

1. Post-void drips can be serious

Lots of older men have excess leakage after they urinate, but too much may be symptom of a more serious problem. If your pants get wet no matter how long you shake and dance, you may have prostate issues.

2. It’s not rare

As you might expect, incontinence is more prevalent in the elderly population.  Between 5 and 15 percent of men over the age of 60 deal with it on a regular basis.

3. It’s nothing to be ashamed of

Man are far more likely than women to ignore the issue entirely. Many feel embarrassed and refuse to wear absorbent underwear, better known as adult diapers. But as every urologist knows, the problem is often age-related and must be dealt with accordingly.

4. Prostate enlargement may be to blame

When the prostate gland swells as men age, it can block the urethra, which typically causes some leakage or overflow. Sometimes these issues can be treated with a medical solution; other times they must simply be managed.
