Directions for Application
The patient should be in the supine position. Wash the genital area with a mild soap and water. Trim the pubic hair. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Do not use oils, lotions or powders as they will interfere with the adhesion of the barrier.
Be sure the drain cap is placed on the pouch drain.
If necessary, cut an opening in the skin barrier slightly larger than the penis. DO NOT cut beyond the line indicated on the backing paper.
1. Remove the protective release paper from the skin barrier.
2. Place the penis in the opening of the pouch and press the barrier securely on the skin. Avoid wrinkling which can create channels for leakage.
Gently hold the barrier material against the skin for 60 seconds so that the patients body heat will soften the barrier material and enhance its adhesive properties.
3.
Remove the drain cap at the bottom of the pouch and attach the tubing from a bedside receptacle, or legbag. For short periods of time, the pouch may be disconnected from the collector. Be sure to replace the pouch drain cap.
Removing the Pouch
Disconnect the pouch from the bedside receptacle. Close the pouch drain cap.
Ease the skin barrier away from the skin. Dispose of used pouch according to protocol. Do not discard into a sewage system.
